| Allen Moore began competing in sprint races about 15 years ago after moving to Alaska from Arkansas. For the last 4 years, he has set his sights on mid-distance races such as the Copper Basin 300, Tustumena 200, the Knik 200, the Two Rivers 200, and the TRDMA Solstice 100. In 2004, he took 5th place in the Copper Basin. In 2005, Allen won the Copper Basin 300 during a year when trail conditions were extremely difficult and unpredictable. He says that he has never run a team so perfectly on. Girlfriend, ChaCha, Lilith, Venus, Pingo, Rosco, Zorro, Blossom, Heidi, Oddball and Manhatten just jelled into a perfect team during the race. He has continued to compete in the Copper Basin, taking 3rd in 2006 and the Tustumena. He placed 36th with the puppy team for SP Kennel in Iditarod in 2007. In 2008, he has won both the Copper Basin 300 and the Tustumena 100. He will be running the Iditarod again this year with the younger dogs.
During the summer, Allen works as a contractor and carpenter and trains sled dogs full time during the winter. He loves to fish and does so as often as he can. He lives in Two Rivers, Alaska with his wife Aliy Zirkle. |
