Fats, grandfather of the kennel, is back at SP Kennel after a stint in Michigan with Ken & Amy Wheaton. He helped Ken put in trails and learn about mushing. Although he is almost completely deaf, he is enjoying playing with the puppies and wandering around the kennel. He is 13 years old.

Ash retired after the 2005 Iditarod. Ken & Amy had been waiting for her for 3 years. She moved to Michigan and is a pet / leader in Ken's dog team. She is loving the warmer temperatures, playing in the fenced in yard with fellow retiree, Poncho. Ash is 9 years old.

Iditarod 2005, 2004, 2003

 Rubia retired after the 2001 Iditarod. She is from the first litter Aliy ever had. She grew up with her brother, Pedro, in Bettles when Aliy worked for Fish & Wildlife. Although she has short legs (we call her physically challenged), she has completed three 1000 mile races. On the coast on Iditarod, Aliy promised Rubia that she could be a truck dog if she finished the race. Aliy held to her promise and Rubia is Aliy's shadow, going everywhere she does. She is 12 years old.

Rosco, a Fats pup, retired with Ash after the 2005 Iditarod. He ran a fabulous last race, most of it in lead. He moved to Green Bay where he lives with a cocker spaniel and goes to doggie daycare twice a week. They sent us his report card, all "A"s - plays well with others. He has been certified to go to schools, hospitals and retirement homes where he surely is the star. Rosco is 9 years old.

Yukon Quest 2000

 Susie, a Fat's pup and Pingo's litter sister, retired after the 2004 racing season. She is the sweetest dog and will pet herself if any ones foot or hand is near by. She lives with Kaz and Ray and her half sister Mo, who she loves to play with. They are the most talkative dogs around. Susie is 8 years old.

Flood is the other kennel grandfather. He was one of Aliy's original sled dogs from the village of Allakaket. He came to live with her after the huge flood that destroyed the village - hence his name. Flood retired after he developed Lupus and had to start taking steroids (illegal for races). He is a happy go lucky, old man. He lives in the house at the kennel. He is 12 years old.
